Interview with Ashley ‘Asher D’ Walters and Kane ‘Kano’ Robinson (Top Boy)

There aren’t many people who have represented London as long or as well as Ashley ‘Asher D’ Walters and Kane ‘Kano’ Robinson. From music to films to television, these two icons continue to ascend beyond the limitations that people tried to put on their careers early on and it’s been a joy to watch.

I grew up on the original Top Boy series in the early 2010’s and it was a massive loss when the series was taken off of the air. To put into context how long the show was gone for, by the time Kano and Ashley Walters had returned to our screens in their roles of Sully and Dushane, I’d finished secondary school, sixth form, university and got a full-time job. As an adult I have an even greater appreciation of what this show meant (and still means) to the youth and the visibility that it provided us on a global stage.
