To be honest I don’t even know where to start with this one… I normally pride myself on being very prepared for interviews and leaving no stone unturned, but this time around I was truly caught off guard and that’s what made it so special.
I stepped into the room and had my questions ready to go, with a man by the name of Jeymes “The Bullitts” Samuel, the director of Netflix’s stylish Western Thriller, ‘The Harder They Fall’. The conversation was supposed to centre around the lack of (and poor) representation of women and Black characters in Westerns, his love of the genre and how he secured Jay Z’s backing for his first feature film. Whilst we spoke about all of that, the real topic of conversation came straight after the first question when he revealed that he grew up in a part of West London called ‘Harrow Road’, which also happened to be the area that I’ve called home for my entire life.
It’s not often that I see someone who (literally) comes from where I come from go on to achieve such big things on the global stage. I look forward to the day that our paths cross again, until then I hope you enjoy the interview and the film #HarrowRoadBoysStayWinning!
