All good things must come to an end… whether it be the summer holidays, the Harry Potter franchise or the last piece of chicken in the KFC family bucket, nothing good lasts forever, and unfortunately for Everton fans, the same goes for Leighton Baines’ time as their first choice left-back.

The man tasked with the colossal task of filling his boots… Lucas Digne.
Not many can say that they have played for Paris Saint-Germain, Roma and Barcelona and even fewer can say that they have done it before the age of 25, unless your name happens to be Lucas Digne that is.
The frenchman has had somewhat of a globe-trotting career up until this point, but Everton fans should be hoping that this is his final stop. Digne is the embodiment of the modern-day full-back, quick, confident on the ball and equally as adept at going forward as he is defending and just like Baines he comes with an extra feature, he’s a set-piece specialist.
On paper a transfer from Barcelona to Everton would be a significant step down in quality, but Digne is unlikely to look at it like this. During his two years at the Camp Nou, Digne struggled for game time because he couldn’t displace Jordi Alba, so he arrives at Goodison Park with a chip on his shoulder and a point to prove.
The VERDICT… A perfect successor to Leighton Baines.
